Celebration of the aviation and the air forces in the museum of aviation in Krumovo

Hundreds of veterans, friends of the aviation and the personal staff of 24th helicopter air base, feted the Celebration of the aviation and the air-forces in the Museum of aviation in Krumovo.

The celebration started with a military formation and a meeting of the flag of the unit. In his speech, the director of NMMH –col. Petko Yotov accentuated that only the Bulgarians have that sort of celebration and it originates in the first battle flight of the Bulgarian pilots over the siege Edrine during the Balkan war (October 16th 1912)

An accent in the celebration was the awarding of 28 lovers of the aviation from all Bulgaria, who restored 5 planes of the museum – MiG 17, MiG 15, Yak 9 and two Yak 23 by their own means and work. The initiative “Museum of aviation- let’s help them” exists more than a year and its creator is Valentin Petrov, examining magistrate and winner of international prizes from competitions of aircraft construction. Each of the contributors was awarded with the plaquette of the museum and Valentin Petrov received the donor symbol of the National museum of military history.

Created in 1991, the Museum of aviation which is a branch of NMMH since 3 years , preserves over 66 flying machines and about 6800 exponents among which are the hydroplane “Arado 196 A3 Shark”, the launching mechanism of the spacecraft “Union 33”, the Bulgarian plane LAZ- 7M .

The ceremony ended with awarding of soldiers from 24th air base on the occasion of the Celebration and with presenting of wreaths and flowers at the monument of the perished pilots.
